Christchurch Wins International Garden City Award

Christchurch can take a bow the efforts of local people to keep the environment litter free and look after the City's gardens and parks has officially won the title "Best in the World". From 620 entries, Christchurch won the highest award in the International Garden City Awards in Bangalore, India. According to Warwick Scadden, Curator of the Botanical Gardens, winning the Garden City Award recognises the pride Christchurch people take in their parks and gardens.

President of the Christchurch Beautifying Society Brian Briggs was delighted with the award. "This has great tourism potential for the City. Many international visitors come to see our gardens. Knowing we are the best in the world will encourage even more to come," he said.

The award is on display on the ground floor of the Council offices in Tuam Street.
