Canterbury Development Corporation Helps Company Spring Back

Six years ago, Mark Chamberlain's suspension and shock absorber manufacturing company, Chamberlain Autosprings Ltd of Sydenham, was in trouble after several unfortunate business decisions.

Mark faced problems which often destroy young firms.

A visit by John Hamilton of Business Grow helped. Business Grow is a confidential free service from the Canterbury Development Corporation (CDC), helping businesses through different situations by referring them to providers of advice and information.

We sorted out a number of financial issues with their assistance. Using several CDC services, referred through Business Grow, helped us focus on the most profitable way ahead for the company, says Mark.

Chamberlain Autosprings also listed on CDC's Businesslink Canterbury database, resulting in several sales enquiries. More recently he used Employment Services to help recruit additional workshop staff.

Since Chamberlain Autosprings started with Business Grow the company has doubled in staff numbers, quadrupled in turnover and become authorised Christchurch dealer for Australian auto spring manufacturer Pedders Suspension.

Helping us focus on a clear direction was the most crucial assistance we received from Business Grow. Taking a long term view has really helped bring the company into a far more profitable situation, says Mark Chamberlain.

CDC acts as the economic development and employment arm of the Christchurch City Council, promoting growth and creating employment opportunities in Canterbury.
