The Council has expanded its Land Information Memorandum service. When an application is made for information about a property, you may also find out about Resource Consents that have been granted or applied for in relation to nearby properties.
The chairman of Canterbury Law Society's Conveyancing Committee, Brendan McConnell, says the expanded service is a good thing.
"We've always been of the view that the (old) LIMs weren't sufficient," he says. "There may be matters relating to adjoining properties which are relevant to the particular property we're looking at. For example, a Resource Consent may have been granted to establish a neighbourhood tavern."
Anyone can apply for a LIM for a fee of $125. It will tell you about Resource Consents relating to properties within a 100 metre radius, as well as the property you're interested in.
LIMS OR PIMS? Land Information Memorandums are historical records of what's happened on the land. Project Information Memorandums (PIMs) are to do with projects being carried out on the land.
