History Repeats

City Councillors have been meeting in the historic Stone Chamber where the Canterbury Provincial Council met more, than a century ago.

Situated in the Provincial Council Buildings on Durham Street, the Stone Chamber represents the finest example of High Victorian Gothic architecture in New Zealand and has a spectacular tile, timber and stone interior. The Councillors have been meeting in the Great Hall in the Stone Chamber -this year while the heating and ventilation system in Civic Offlces is being upgraded.

The Provincial Council Buildings are open to visitors.

Monday - Saturday: 10.30am - 2.30pm Sundays 2pm - 4pm.
