Purpose

The Avon River (Central City) Masterplan has been prepared to guide the use and management of the river corridor for the next 25 years, in order to protect, integrate and celebrate the many layers of natural and cultural heritage.

Part 3 of this masterplan summarises the main policy documents setting out the community’s aspirations for the corridor. Foremost is the City Plan. Several Council strategies and policy statements give more detailed direction.

Coverage

The river corridor covered by the Avon River (Central City) Masterplan is mapped on the implementation plans (Sheets 1 to 11).

Vision

To reflect community values in guarding, managing and enjoying the Avon River/Ōtakaro and its setting through the central city

as an inheritance for present and future generations

and as a celebration of the city’s environmental, cultural, social and economic prosperity.
