- Townhouses so high blocking out light and sun to the rest
of the neighbourhood, built on high water table - will be
unsafe - concreting creek so that houses would not
subside - very ugly
- Bealey Avenue - old house has been made into motels.
Looks awful, ruined the look of house
- Subdividing of properties - should have been stopped
sooner
- Infill housing
- Halswell Domain car park has been beautified which has
cut down the number of parking spaces
- All these infills should not have been allowed, far too
close to the boundaries
- Cross leasing of sections - infill
- In particular, the subdivisions on too-small sections and
loss of good trees - therefore loss of birds - therefore
loss of quality of life
- Construction materials of town houses do not fit with
existing neighbourhood (i.e. Tilt slab or concrete block)
- Boarding rooms for students
- Infill is taking the beauty away and also trees go too,
less sunlight and less privacy
- Infill housing
- New development on Riccarton Road
- Infill housing and cross-leasing in the long term will
create slums - a disaster for the city. Also look as
though they will deteriorate rapidly
- Fairview Avenue humps in middle of road, no reflective
markers, quite confusing at night
- The dense nature of the housing on a small area
- Infill building irks me a bit
- Overhead wiring on a new large expensive property - that
seems a step back - a property on Veitches Rd
- The number of buildings and the number of subdivisions in
the vicinity of (Cherry Place?) And all over Christchurch
- enough space to go to the outside of Christchurch
- Development behind Farnborough Street should not be
allowed to proceed - we don't need cheap housing
- Cross leasing and subdivision of sections. Breaking up of
north west greenbelt. Permitting Valentines restaurant to
go opposite St Bede's with reduced car parks as well
- Productive land in this area should not be allowed to be
cut up for housing, this is happening in this area all
the time, satellite suburbs would be better
- The houses being built on Travis Road
- 1.5m high fence built on the corner obstructs traffic
view
- The building of large houses on small cross leased
sections. The placing of garages in the front garden,
houses close to boundary
- Don't like overcrowding extra units on 1 section, turns
area into slum
- Don't like two houses on small sections - no privacy
- Two storey dwellings too close to boundary - our property
and sunshine affected by dwelling with unsuitable
recession plane (too high)
- The subdividing into small sections creating in fill
housing I don't really like that
- I don't like the identical profile of the new shops in
Ferry Road in a few years it will look like Coronation
Street
- The ones stretching from Heathcote right through to
Parklands. We think they've disturbed the wildlife
dramatically. The wetlands are endangered
- Summer high rise buildings. Houses on the hills are too
close together. Port Hills developments should be closely
monitored
- The LPG tanks that get permitted in spite of the
Environmental Commission that my wife serves on saying no
- Infill housing
- Infill housing
- Large number of small badly built flats. Subdivision.
Infill housing. Too many elderly not enough young
- Two storey houses blocking people's sun
- Admiralty Courts in Mariner Street are a blot on the
landscape, there is no architectural merit in them at
all, the houses on Scarborough are too large on only
small sections they look awful
- Admiralty Courts and other similar developments in Sumner
- Admiralty Courts in Mariner Street
- Admiralty Courts because it is ugly and poorly planned
inside
- Admiralty Courts - they should have been more
architecturally designed to suit the seaside area they
are a blot on the landscape
- Admiralty Courts in Mariner Street. The houses on
Scarborough hill should not encroach on the skyline
- The houses and sections should be more in proportion. If
it's a huge house it should have to go on a larger
section etc.
- Infill housing
- Overcrowding town houses on silly bits of land they've
absolutely ruined Merivale
- Two storied houses amongst all the single stories
- When they approached on other people's privacy
- Building homes on too small a section
- Two town houses jammed onto a small section do not fit
the character of the neighbourhood
- Building heights on some renovations and new houses on
the hill
- Sometimes people's views are being spoiled on the hills
by infill housing
- The roading infrastructure on the hill isn't enough to
cope with the infill housing. The styles of architecture
are out of keeping with the traditional homes on the hill
- The extra housing really does concern me what are they
going to do with the sewage I worry that it's going to
get overloaded
- The heights of hedges are blocking out sun. There seem to
be no height restrictions
- Down the hill there's a section that's been chopped in
half and a townhouse put on the front. It's unsightly.
It's at no.22 St Andrews Hill
- Straight over the road the chap bought the section and he
put two big townhouses on it jamming them in and they
look like a barn. That's 6 and 6a Marama Crescent
- The cross leasing means space requirements are too dense.
Residential development on the hills is altering the
landscape features detrimentally
- Section sub-divisions allowing large houses being built
on small areas and completely dwarfing the original
building and being quite out of keeping with the area
- In general terms the appearance of flashy houses it is an
improper use of the Port Hills to keep on building on
them
- Admiralty Courts is an eyesore. Disagree with type of
building
- The garage next door to us should not have been allowed a
building consent for infringement of privacy
- Admiralty Courts are visually unacceptable
- Admiralty Courts should not have been built - should have
been done more tastefully has destroyed local character
and views. The Cave Rock development and Marine Hotel and
the Esplanade development should not be allowed to be
high rises
- Garage roof and house roof not in keeping with the area.
Balmoral Hill - comments have been made about skyline
atrocity. Not my opinion alone
- The extension of Cannon Hill Crescent Road to link it up
with itself
- That pedestrian crossing outside Mount Pleasant school
for lazy mothers
- Admiralty Courts - just looks like a factory
- Admiralty Courts is such an ugly building - looks like a
school block out of the 60's
- Admiralty Courts is disgusting. More rules against sub
division, especially on the hills
- A lot of hill development - particularly Scarborough and
Richmond Hill - they should leave the hillsides as is.
Also object to the apartments being built down in Summer
they are not a bit tasteful or suitable to the area
- The Admiralty Courts
- Admiralty Courts Sumner Bay Terraces huge townhouses on
tiny little sections height and size of buildings too big
for size of land, spoils the character of Sumner,
Balmoral Hill is revolting and an eyesore
- Admiralty Court. Cave Rock Hotel development should not
be allowed
- Admiralty Courts is too high and not in keeping with the
area. The house on Richmond Hill built as a boat is an
eyesore
- Admiralty Courts should not have been built. The proposed
high rise at the Marine Hotel site should not go ahead.
Also the three storey flats by Cave Rock should not be
allowed
- The Shell Station on corner Normans and Strowan is too
big and too bright for too long hours. Infill housing
ruining character of Christchurch
- Buildings should not have been erected on the hills, the
ones in Selwyn district -buildings are rising on the
skyline and completely destroyed the view, power poles do
too
- Residential developments on the Port Hills. The Port
Hills are a visual asset to the city and the views are
being spoilt
- The houses built right on the sky-line. They destroy the
view of the Port Hills and natural contour of the hills.
It is all right to build on the hills if the houses melt
in but not on a ridge where they stand out, these houses
are in the Selwyn District
- Infill housing "has gone mad" - sad the way
gardens and old houses are disappearing
- General subdividing and in-filling
- In fill housing
- Don't like high density dwellings don't like three storey
townhouses or too many dwellings on one site like
Coronation Street slums
- Property sub dividing
- In general townhouses with sections as big as a bath
towel, people start living too close and problems start
- I don't mind the developments, it's the height of the
building and their facades. If Christchurch is supposed
to be a colonial city, then bylaws should be in place to
keep it looking that way. Some buildings are totally
inappropriate
- Too many old villas being removed to make way for
townhouses
- Consent should not have been given for such a design for
townhouses in Ranfurly Street - number 22
- Town houses in a row in Ranfurly Street - contravene
Resource Management Act (building restrictions)
- Infill housing
- Two storied townhouses
- Shouldn't have built a two storey place in front of
another
- All the new houses are on small sections so that is why
we are moving out of town so that we can get a decent
sized section for the kids. When I was renting all the
houses were cut off, no room for the kids. Parks are non
substitutes as you have to be there all the time
- Mainly because of the architectural styles. Aesthetically
the concrete slabs and pillars etc do not fit in with the
village atmosphere
- A townhouse, very low lying, very close to the boundary
and almost touching next door house
- New block of flats are not in keeping with this area the
designs are too modern compared to nearby houses
- The four storey apartment building in Sumner, the height
and lack of taste in its design
- Too many flats on one section
- They are ruining Fendalton. There are too many jammed up
houses, too few trees and too few parking spaces
- Infill housing and close subdivision
- They allowed a townhouse to be built on a tiny little
section. The wall of the house is sitting on the boundary
of a lane. They've allowed too much of that
- Very high fence around next door property used to be able
to sit on our veranda and see all gardens in the
neighbourhood, view now completely gone
- High wall boundary wall too high
